Adios Terre Rouge Wines! (2026)
I heard an interview on CBC Radio with Bill Easton, founder of California’s Terre Rouge Wines, who said that the ban on alcohol was costing him a lot of money. My first thought was ‘Get lost.’ My second thought was: ‘Why is CBC doing a news report on that? Should we feel bad about this winery?’ And finally, my last thought was: ‘I thought that people were drinking less and that we were all about mocktails now; what is going on?’
Anyhow, I went to the Terre Haute website and sent them a message.
Dear Terre Rouge Wines,
I listened with great interest to your CBC interview on August 21. I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you have faced during this trade dispute.
It will take at least two generations to restore the reputation of the U.S. brand in this country. I think it has been tarnished beyond repair. Since your president took office in January 2025, I have stopped purchasing American products, even those I used to like, such as Tabasco sauce.
As for wine, plenty of good bottles are available outside your country, but I am sure you already know that.
Good luck.
